Bringing our Global Sustainability commitments to life across Canada and through the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Throughout Coca-Cola Canada, we are committed to making the pursuit of environmental excellence a priority in the daily operation of our business. We recognize that environmental sustainability is a global issue, and in this section you will learn about our initiatives both in Canada and world-wide.
The steps we take to be good environmental stewards can be traced from the quality of ingredients we demand, through the manufacture of concentrates, to the efficient logistics that we use to deliver products to our bottling partners around the world. Our commitment can also be seen in the design of environmentally conscious packaging in the creation of Coca-Cola products in bottling plants, in the transportation of finished drinks to our retail customers and, finally, in the disposal of packaging by our consumers.
The Coca-Cola system's environmental commitments are focused on the areas in which we have the most significant impacts -- water stewardship, sustainable packaging, and energy & climate protection. We have made progress in each of these areas, but recognize that there is much more to do.
Our Canadian strategic focus areas and goals in these areas are the following:
Water Stewardship
We are working to establish a water sustainable operation in which we use one litre of water for every litre of product we produce what we call water neutrality. We will:
- Reduce our plant water usage ratio by 10% by 2010
- Help protect watersheds in territories where we operate
- Align our entire system with stringent wastewater treatment standards which require returning all water that is used in our manufacturing processes to the environment at a level that supports aquatic life by the end of 2010

Sustainable Packaging/Recycling
We are working to maximize our use of renewable, reusable, and recyclable resources, ultimately recycling the equivalent of 100% of our packaging. We will:
- Avoid the use of 4,200 metric tons of packaging, or almost 3% of our projected usage, between 2008 and 2010
- Recycle or recover more than 90% of materials at our production facilities by 2010
- Lead the industry in package recovery
- Increase recycled content in PET bottles to an average of 10% where commercially viable by 2010

Energy Conservation/Climate Change
We are working to reduce carbon emissions in our manufacturing, fleet, sales and marketing equipment, and facilities. We will:
- Calculate our carbon footprint in 2008 and set emission reduction targets
- Reduce our absolute CO2 manufacturing emissions by 5% compared to 2004 level by 2015
- Ensure that all new sales and marketing equipment is on average 20% more energy efficient by 2010
- Expand hybrid electric technology in our fleet
